Bill-- I was skeptical too but a couple of years ago I was shooting a low-budget commercial spot. I mounted a Sony TRV900, which is a small-ish, 3CCD, DV-cam all over a Toyota SUV: Just behind the wheel-well on the quarter panel, on the hood, on the back, on the roof. We wheeled that SUV all over a dry lake bed out in the desert, doing 360s, driving at high speeds, and more. Then, we took it off the dry lake onto some dirt roads with the SUV bumping up and down like crazy. Neither the camera nor the suction cups came off. The footage was incredible. Just like a car advert.

I'm not real wild about using a suction cup mount, but I see your point. I think that there are lots of inexpensive ways to get professional results. I like the idea of the monopod and ankle weights. That should help steady the camera.

@Bill - I have edited a lot of things with PPro, for me, not a MAC person, it was easier to learn and I could use it on my pretty low priced PC instead of buying an expensive Mac just to relearn computing to edit. Both are powerful programs and both are used for pro work, it depends on what you like.

@Bill-- There's certainly much to learn, not just shooting and recording audio but then editing. I won't be able to cover it all in blog posts, probably not in an ebook either, but i'll try to hit on important stuff and keep my words from getting too technical or focused on one type of camera over others. There's much more to learn when it comes to video because it includes about 80% or more of what people need to know or already know for shooting good stills, and then at least that much again for video, especially if you're including editing in that learning curve.

I think I know the Dan that you're talking about, through Supershoots. I'm also interested in DSLR video, although mine technically isn't a DSLR (an Olympus PEN E-P3). I know a little bit about video, bit haven't shot any for a long time. One thing that does concern me is audio. Crappy audio makes for bad video. I've had some experience with live sound and recording, so I have some ideas of the the things that can go wrong. I have been planning to record the audio on a Zoom H4n and send the audio to the camera to be able to sync the audio. I don't have any real experience editing video. I have Adobe Premier Elements, but I see a lot of people using Final Cut Pro. I don't expect to produce professional video, but I want my videos to look professional.

@Stephen: Well, I'm certainly no lawyer. But one of my best friends is. And I clearly remember, many years ago, him telling me, "You know those parking lot tickets they give you? The ones that say they're not liable for any damages or anything stolen from your vehicle while it's parked in their lot? Total crock of shit. They get made liable every day."

I also remember him on the phone telling some representative at some company, "When your terms and conditions are codified into California law, I'll give them some credence. Until then, I could care less what your terms and conditions say."

Like I said, I'm no lawyer. But I don't think any lawyer is going to give a rat's ass about MM's Terms of Service in a case like this. Just saying. :-)

What does she expect MM to do? Send an escort to every shoot booked (even though they have no idea that a shoot gets booked). This same thing could happen with any site where you actually meet other members in person (IE meetup, dating sites, and such).

I also don't think she has a case. From MM's Terms of Use which she had to agree to use the site.

So the way I read this is even if they find MM guilty they are only liable for $100.

While it is a tragedy what happened to her I don't think MM is at fault here. If it were only those two they could do something about it, but it's not. Should they do extensive background checks on every member.

I do know one thing. If she wins MM will be shut down and probably OMP too.
