Ciao! Sono JimmyD e... Ooops! Sorry. Wrong language.
Hi! I'm JimmyD (well, that's what many people call me) and this is my first post on this new blog I've created.
Why am I writing this? Good question. I guess I have way too much time on my hands. But, besides time, I'm also a guy who makes his living with cameras in his hands. And with those cameras held in my grubby fingers, I mostly shoot beautiful women in various stages of dress and undress. (Hey! Someone's gotta do it!) So, I thought I'd write about my work with cameras and lights and models and all that. I also thought I'd share some of the "how I do" what I do which, obviously, includes some of what I know. I'm not claiming to be a photography know-it-all, far from it, but I do have a few tricks in my bag. Maybe some of you will share some of your tricks?
First off, if you'd like to take a look at a bit of my work, there's a button somewhere on this thing that will take you to my online photo portfolio. (Hint: It's in the "Links" column in the sidebar and its called Pretty Girl Pix.) But let me warn you: My portfolio is NSFW (leastwise, it's not safe for most people's workplaces) and you definitely DO NOT want the kids around if you decide to take a peek. I'm not saying it's porn, it's not, but there's certainly a fair amount of nudity and, IMO, it's not appropriate for children. I'm guessing that might be your opinion as well.
Okay, here's a little bit about me, i.e., as it pertains to photography: I've been shooting cameras since I was 12. That's when my Dad bought me my first, 35mm, SLR camera-- a Yashica Penta J. I took to cameras like a duck to water. I was crazy about capturing the world around me on film and my poor Father, who thought buying the camera was the end of his investment, found himself forking out for processing and prints on a regular basis.
Throughout high school, and then during my first time at college, I studied Graphic Arts with my primary focus being photography. Later, after a stint in the military, I again attended school but this time I attended here, in Los Angeles, and majored in Filmmaking.
For most of my adult life, I've either made my living with cameras or augmented my income with them. (I've also worked construction, tended bar, and worked in various other occupations, but we're not going to "go" there.)
BTW, when I say I make my living with "cameras," that doesn't mean its limited to still photography. I've done alright for myself with motion picture cameras in my hands as well; mostly video.
I guess that's enough about me. I don't want to bore anyone on their first (and, hopefully, not last) visit to this blog. Come back again. I'll probably post images, talk about gear, lighting, post-processing, and all that great stuff that you might be as interested in as I am.
Thanks for visiting my Pretty Girl Shooter blog.
